THE ALEXTHEARTISTE JAM OF THE DAY: "I DON'T WANT TO LIVE ON THE MOON"

ERNIE (FROM SESAME STREET) "I DON'T WANT TO LIVE ON THE MOON"

My boyfriend has the most random songs in his head at any given moment. When I noted that New York has a lot of the cool fashion and magazine jobs, and that I would love to work there but don't think I would want to live there (I'm not sure I can handle a huge, busy city!!!), he started singing the words to this song. It contains a great lesson: you may want to visit different places, and will enjoy visiting different places, but home is truly where the heart is.

I WANT!!! I WANT!!! I WANT!!! SAN FRANCISCO POSTER BY ORK POSTERS' JENNY BEORKREM

The Curiosity Shoppe (855 Valencia St., SF) is brimming with unique, artsy objects that are full of personality and charm. Wanting to keep abreast of the newest items, I signed up for their email newsletter. Today's mailing included this awesome piece of art: a limited edition (only 100!!!) "White on Kraft"-colored San Francisco poster by Jenny Beorkrem.
I'm on a huge hype about starting my art collection, and this poster is cool (love the breakdown of the neighborhoods!!!), limited edition (I love those words), and affordable (only $35!!!). Plus it's San Francisco!!! This is so going up in my living room.

SEEING DOUBLE: THE HOGANS AND THE CHAPMANS

Linda Hogan and Beth Chapman are uber-tan (usually), peroxide blonde, busty women who have a flair for the tacky. Their husbands, Hulk Hogan and Dog the Bounty Hunter Duane Chapman, respectively, are equally tan and blonde, testosterone-driven, muscular tacky men who also happen to be both Christians. (In everone's defense, they all seem like nice people, but fake tanner and hair bleach don't lie.).

Apparently, the similarities end there, at least for Beth, as rumor has it she said Linda "looks like a slut" and is "a real drunk." (This is according to the New York Post , not the most credible source, I know; I was unable to find the blog in question to verify the information.) Beth's comments, which were in response to Linda having a 19-year-old boyfriend, places her on Team Hulk. It turns out Dog and the Hulkster are friends, and both couples used to hang out together. Can you imagine that?!?!?!

"MAD HATTER'S PARTY" NOV. 22 @ YOSHI'S

Apparently, Donovan's the one who throws and/or DJs at all the foofy parties in SF. Add this in with the fact that I absolutely love theme parties, and that this one is literally walking distance from my house, and you can imagine my excitement at the upcoming "Mad Hatter's Party" on November 22, at Yoshi's in San Francisco.

I can see how a lot of themed parties can be a pain in the butt --you feel you have to go all out, spend a lot of money, and go with the theme, unless you want to get pointed at and laughed at the whole night. The beauty of a Mad Hatter's Party is that you can:

a) go all out and dress up like one of the Alice in Wonderland characters, or in any other jazzy costume complimented by a hat

or

b) just wear what you normally wear to the club...with a hat.

Everyone wins!!! Especially your boyfriend, when you tell him you're dragging him to a "costume party."

*Below is all the information sent out with the flyer:

"After the tremendous success of last year's MAD HATTER'S Party, Donovan hosts his famous annual San Francisco tradition at the ultra chic Yoshi's restaurant. Enter the Sexy Yet Twisted World of Donovan's "Wonderland". From the creator of the famous "Haunted Ball" Halloween Production, come experience Yoshi's magically transformed into the Psychedelic World of Wonderland with over $10,000 in decorations. Immerse Yourself in the Psychedelic World of Non-Sense. Where the Bizarre & Absurd Become the Ordinary. Witness Outlandish Performances & Playful Characters from Another World Dimension... Take your photo with the entire cast from Alice in Wonderland.

Hats Requested.

Come in your favorite Obama shirt (and get in free before 11), patriotic gear (it's cool to be an American again!!!) and most importantly, a celebratory mood.

THE NIGHT BARACK CHANGED THE WORLD

*All artwork by Shepard Fairey

Last night my life changed. Last night the world changed. Last night, my generation's voice was heard, and for the first time since we can remember, the opportunity for change has truly presented itself. There's no way one can overemphasize the magnitude of Barack Obama winning the presidential election last night. It was one of the biggest and most important events in history.

Although I will never fully understand how it is to be African-American, I am a minority and a woman, and more often than not a liberal, and do understand feeling underrepresented, feeling misrepresented, feeling unrepresented. Last night was a moment of equality, of redemption, not only for (but perhaps most importantly for) African Americans, but also for everyone in America. It was a moment where everyone celebrated together as just simply human beings, as people existing together on this earth. People cried, people cheered, people remembered how it felt to be proud to be an American.

I was in the Mission with my boyfriend and some friends in a local bar (O'Greenbergs). No one's eyes moved from the flat screen T.V.s propped everywhere, often meant for sports games. We saw history happening and when Obama spoke, we felt hope and faith--two of the basic necessities of life--surge through our veins. The pandemonium that spilled out into the streets was more ridiculous than any New Year's Eve, St. Patrick's Day and Halloween San Francisco has ever seen, as noted by our cab driver and everyone in attendance.

It wasn't drunken, superficial happiness--it was happiness from the heart, happiness from the soul. It's what I call that "warm and fuzzy moment" that touches your being and creates a natural high. People were so ridiculously elated, chanting "Yes we can!!! O-bam-a!!!," high-fiving each other, screaming "Woo!!!" at every random moment (inciting more random "Woos!!!") and dancing in the streets, to drummers and people banging pots and pans.

I always bring a camera with me, and I when I don't, it seems that some great photo op presents itself. As my battery wasn't charged, I didn't bring my camera with me last night, and missed taking many wonderful shots. But I think God wanted it that way. No photos can capture the feeling in the air, the palpable sense of love, brotherhood, equality and the excitement of a new America and a new world. It's those crazy stories (usually without pictures) that you end up telling your grandchildren as they roll their eyes and wonder if grandma had her meds today; it's later that they hopefully realize that someone in their family fought for a better world and lived a piece of history.

Hope won last night. Change won last night. From the dreariness of war, from drowning in debt, stress and anger without a life jacket, wallowing in despair, and feeling like we were ants yelling at one big, ancient, unshakable elephant, came a bright floodlight of possibility, of excitement at what our future holds. Last night, we really believed we have a future. Thank you Barack Obama, for giving that back to us.

SEEING DOUBLE: JENNIFER LOPEZ AND CARRIE ANN INABA

Both Jennifer Lopez and Carrie Ann Inaba danced up a storm as Fly Girls in In Living Color. Both have wonderously highlighted, layered and coiffed hair. Exotic looks, a don't-mess-with-me attitude, and a sexy-glam wardbrobe??? Check, check, check. According to Popcrunch, Lopez and Inaba have even teamed up to open the Dance Dream Academy--dance studios that will give those without a dollar but with a dream the chance to learn how to dance. Now that's fly.

CALIFORNIANS: VOTE YES ON PROP 2 TODAY FOR HUMANE FARM ANIMAL TREATMENT

Yes on Prop 2

*All photos from www.yesonprop2.com

Nobody is forcing you to give up meat and dairy, or have a pet pig, but if you can give animals a decent, happy life before you eat them and make it more likely that you get healthy, non-contaminated food at the same time, wouldn't that be great??? If you agree, then vote YES on Proposition 2, the Prevention of Farm Animal Cruelty Act, today.

The proposition "requires that calves raised for veal, egg-laying hens and pregnant pigs be confined only in ways that allow these animals to lie down, stand up, fully extend their limbs and turn around freely. Exceptions [are] made for transportation, rodeos, fairs, 4-H programs, lawful slaughter, research and veterinary purposes. [It] provides misdemeanor penalties, including a fine not to exceed $1,000 and/or imprisonment in jail for up to 180 days."

It sounds so backwards that in 2008 we are talking about allowing animals the "right" to be able to turn around or stretch, but we are. I'm looking past money (I have already paid more to buy eggs from chickens allowed to frolic freely) and trying to be humane. Before I start sounding too PETA/liberal/hippie/San Franciscan/hypocrite because I do eat meat and dairy, I'll just leave you with the information I've given and let you decide for yourself.

For more information about Prop 2 and why you may want to say yes, please visit http://www.yesonprop2.com/index.php.
