LOOK FOR ME ON KOFY TV'S "DANCE PARTY!!!"

The popular San Francisco dance show, "Dance Party" is BACK on KOFY TV, and I was on the episode which first aired on February 5!!! (I hear it's on rerun, so you might be able to catch it--I'm still trying to find an online clip to post.)

I was dressed as one of the girls in the Robert Palmer videos, and plan to have some kind of theme with each show.

I love to dance, I love the 80s, and I love being on television, so it's a blast. Look for me on future episodes, starting in March!!!

MY FIRST FASHION SHOW, 10PM THIS SAT. @ 111 MINNA!!!

"A Live '80s Fashion Show Featuring original looks by 5 local designers: Erica Pedersen, Walter Castro, Sarah Boll, V. Alexandra de F. Szoenyi and Monica Demaray.

Looks range from '40s-style "Blade Runner" styles to futuristic, Mad-Max-in-neon numbers to re-imagined Dynasty gowns. Local designers showing original, tailored pieces, an elevated runway, provocative hair and makeup and a slick, remixed '80s soundtrack all make Runway 1984 a must see!

V. Alexandra de F. Szoenyi is a designer, stylist, pro photographer and published writer, who has written about everything from fashion to movies to music. She lives for vintage anything, color, prints, pop culture, metallics, beautiful things, and not subscribing to just one look."

*I've wanted to have my designs on a catwalk for as long as I can remember. I constantly picture every detail of my first show, from the clothing to the music to the hair and makeup. I've lagged for so long, but now it is time. My segment, "Grace & Dynasty," is inspired by my grandmother, Graciela Gonzalez, and the T.V. show my family loved, "Dynasty." This is going to BE MAJOR. Be there.*

DEAL OF THE DAY: SHE-RA ON DVD

I L-O-V-E-D (and still do love) the cartoon She-Ra, Princess of Power. Could you possibly have a more female-empowering show as a kid??? She-Ra didn't call on her brother He-Man for help. Oh no. She held her own. I watched the cartoon and played with the little figures decorated with crystals, holograms and iridescent fabric. I even had the She-Ra castle. So you can imagine my excitement when I found volumes 1 and 2 of season one and season two of the cartoon on DVD--get this--for $9.99 each!!! (They're originally $49.98 each.) There's also a Best of She-Ra, Princess of Power DVD for the same price, and it's all available at Best Buy. I just ordered mine!!!

THE ALEXTHEARTISTE JAM OF THE WEEK: "YOU MIGHT THINK"

THE CARS "YOU MIGHT THINK"

I just added this song to my iPod and was telling my boyfriend how cool I think the video for it is. I love it's 80s cheesiness and humor, its kookiness, and how things, like the sun going down, are timed to the music.

SEEING DOUBLE: MR. T AND GIVENCHY FALL 2008 MODELS

Photographed by Daniele Oberrauch / imaxtree.com

Wearing layer upon layer of gold chains, some of Givenchy's Fall 2008 runway models looked like they should be shouting "I pity the fool!!!," like a certain Senor T.

THE ALEXTHEARTISTE JAMS OF THE WEEK: MADONNA BIRTHDAY FREE-FOR-ALL: THURSDAY

As much as I love Madonna and all her music, I have a certain soft spot for her earlier work. Perhaps it's because then I was a little girl, dancing crazily to her jams and wanting to dress up like her. Maybe it's because of the infectious beats found in 80s music (which I love). Perhaps it's because there's the perfect mix of the raw gritiness of a newbie and the confidence of someone who always knew she was a star. Either way, I've been a fan ever since. Here is one of my favorite Madonna songs, "Burning Up."

BONUS!!! On a previous post called "Madonna: Where it All Began," I had posted the video of her first performance ever, where she sang the song "Everybody." I just came across the video, which is also her very first. Here it is:

THE ALEXTHEARTISTE JAMS OF THE WEEK: MADONNA BIRTHDAY FREE-FOR-ALL: TUESDAY

One of my favorite Madonna videos is "La Isla Bonita"--I remember watching it and wanting to dress up like a Spanish senorita just like she did, loving her entire look--from her hair color to her makeup to her clothing.

THE ALEXTHEARTISTE JAM OF THE WEEK: "FASHION"

DAVID BOWIE "FASHION"

With all the fashion events going on in the City and Oakland this Friday, I couldn't help but get one stylish song stuck in my head: "Fashion." David Bowie lived it and sang about it.

THE ALEXTHEARTISTE JAM OF THE WEEK: "WHAT'S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT"

TINA TURNER "WHAT'S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT"

I absolutely love Tina Turner, and have a great memory tied to this song. When I was five years old, I would belt out the words to "What's Love Got To Do With It" at the top of my lungs in my grandma's station wagon. It's probably the earliest memory of a lifelong passion--singing--and a funny one for my family and I. The song itself is awesome, as is the great diva, Ms. Turner. Just try to hear this song and not feel the urge to strut down the street like she does in this video!!! Feisty song from a strong woman.

THE ALEXTHEARTISTE JAM OF THE WEEK: "ANGEL"

MADONNA "ANGEL"

OMG I LOVE THIS SONG. I had forgotten about it for a while (it's a super old-school Madonna jam) and rediscovered it while I was searching for new Madge songs to put on the iPod. It's one of my favorites and this video highlights Madonna in all her 80s glory, reminding me exactly why I wanted to look like her as a kid.

MADONNA: WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

I was watching Madonna's induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on You Tube and was enchanted by the long-running, glamorous career of the pop diva. I also recognized and admired the hard work she put into making it and staying at the top of her game. A must for any Madge fan (I'm a huge one), here is another gem I came across: her first live performance as a solo recording artist (at Danceteria in New York in 1982).
