SEEING DOUBLE: ELLE MACPHERSON AND HEIDI KLUM

Elle Macpherson is the stunner from Down Under who is a fixture in Sports Illustrated. Heidi Klum is the German beauty who owns the Victoria's Secret catwalk. Strikingly similar in appearance, they both have that sunny, "I live at the beach" look. At the center of a heated debate, they also both want to be the only one referred to as "The Body."

FERGIE SOUNDS MADONNA-ESQUE IN NEW BEP SONG

It took me a while to figure out that it was Fergie singing the new song, "Meet Me Halfway." She definitely changed her voice up a bit on this track, reminding me of early Madonna. Check out the song below, along with a couple of old-school Madonna jams, and hear for yourself.

Kourtney Kardashian and Amerie look very much alike!!! Aside from their long black hair and almost identical facial features, the reality star and the chanteuse also seem to have similar taste in fashion.

TONIGHT: "VH1 DIVAS"...WILL IT DELIVER???

divas-poster

I love divas. The voices, the glamour, the hair. The idea of having immense talents who sell out stadiums under one roof, on one stage, is a musical moment to say the least. From 1998 to 2004, VH1 Divas has featured superstars such as Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Cher, Celia Cruz, Elton John, Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Mary J. Blige, and Gladys Knight. Celine, Aretha, Mariah and Carole King performed in the first show alone!!!

After a five year break, Divas is back, but with a slightly different approach. The show, which airs tonight, September 17 at 9/8c, will feature "a crop of new, young superstars," according to the Divas website. Performing are Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Hudson, Jordin Sparks, and Leona Lewis. I know J. Hud will bring it like a true diva, but will the others live up to the diva name???

One can't help thinking that maybe VH1 couldn't get the big headliners to perform anymore, or that they are trying to play to the younger crowd with acts like Cyrus. I'm always one to look for what's fresh and new as much as what's legendary, so I hope it's a divas-in-training spectacular instead of a concert of singers who haven't really earned the title of d-i-v-a.

"LA MISSION" OPENS THE SF INT'L FILM FESTIVAL APRIL 23

La Mission
Opening Night, Thursday April 23

"La Mission," which opens the San Francisco International Film Festival April 23, is about life in the popular San Francisco district. It stars the talented (and gorgeous) SF native Benjamin Bratt. His brother, Peter Bratt, is the director and wife, actress Talisa Soto Bratt, is also in the film. See how it was before your favorite cafe or store opened there.

"Film

La Mission
7:00 pm
Castro Theatre
429 Castro Street (near Market)

Kick off the 52nd San Francisco International Film Festival with a West Coast premiere screening, special guests and a festive celebration with live entertainment, dancing, hors d’oeuvres, drinks and a complimentary gift bag. Stars Benjamin Bratt, Erika Alexander, Jeremy Ray Valdez, Talisa Soto-Bratt and director Peter Bratt in person. Peter Bratt’s powerful and moving film is an ardent love letter to the vibrancy and daily struggles that take place in the streets of San Francisco’s Mission District. Full of affection for its characters, La Mission is a redemptive story of one man’s struggle to unlearn a lifetime of destructive habits.

Party
9:30 pm
Bruno’s/El Capitan Theatre

Celebrate Opening Night Mission style at two historic venues, the iconic Bruno’s and an adjoining outdoor setting on the site of the former El Capitan theater, with vintage lowriders from the film. Treat yourself to cool cocktails and international culinary delights while dancing to the Latin beats of salsa and rumba. You must be 21+ to attend the party."

"GREY GARDENS" PREMIERES TOMORROW APRIL 18 ON HBO

Grey Gardens really makes me wish I had HBO. I've seen the documentary. I'm dying to see Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange as Little Edie and Big Edie Bouvier Beale in HBO's take on the lives of Jackie Kennedy's aunt and cousin in a run-down East Hampton mansion . A riches to rags story, interesting fashion and a complicated, often chaotic mother-daughter relationship equals great television.

HALLE BERRY'S "HARPER'S BAZAAR" COVER

halle berry
Photo from Harpersbazaar.com (Photographed by Alexi Lubormirski)

The added bonus to subscribing to Harper's Bazaar is that you get a more artistic, less crowded cover that's unique from the one you see on the newsstands. I look forward to these every month. Magazines are caving to the economy and the pressure to sell, resulting in gaudy, loud, cluttered covers that seem chaotic and desperate.

What happened to Halle Berry on the May 2009 cover is even worse than the cluttering cover lines. The truly flawless actress and spokeswoman looked tired, washed out and old. This is not Halle Berry!!! You can imagine how relieved I was upon receiving the subscriber version of the magazine in the mail yesterday. Halle looked gorgeous, and the cover, photographed by Alexi Lubormirski, is nothing short of a work of art. It's the glamour and fantasy that we need and look for in an economic crisis. This issue is definitely going in my library!!!
